The historic Cowboy Trail is a scenic route along highway 22 in the foothills of the Rocky
Mountains, Alberta. It stretches 584 km from Mayerthorpe, in the north to Lundbreck, in the
south and features everything from beautiful views of the rolling foothills to the dramatic
scenery of the Rocky Mountains.
We feature a small section of this historic route in our ‘Cowboy Trail Tour’ and love to spend
time visiting our partners in some of the small towns, villages, and hamlets along the way.
Cochrane is our hometown and we love its western heritage, small-town hospitality, and the
fact we are lucky enough to have two craft breweries and two craft distilleries in the town.
We love Half Hitch Brewing – a locally owned and operated brewery and restaurant, that
serves a variety of beers and great food. Their patio is a great place to hang no matter
what the weather!
Rocky View Brewing is the newest micro-brewery in town that has a great selection of beers
and food. The tap room has a great atmosphere, and the pet friendly patio is a great place to
enjoy my favourite beer, the Rocky View IPA!
Both the Whispering Dutchman Distillery and Krang Spirits have some amazing hand-crafted
spirits to choose from. We have a hard time choosing a favourite at Whispering Dutchman as
everything so good, but their Alberta Amaretto is to die for poured over some ice-cream!
There are so many places along the Cowboy Trail to visit, check back soon to hear about more
of our favourites.
